March 5, 2016 — Marian’s Katie Kurzinsky cruises to victory in the 100 backstroke on the second day of the District 11 Class 2A swim championships at Parkland. Kurzinsky posts a time of 1:00.05 to win the event by more than two and a half seconds. The gold medal is her second of the tournament, and she is awarded the Dennis McGinley Swimmer of the Meet Award. Marian freshman Danny Berlitz also captures gold by taking the 500 freestyle during the boys competition in a time of 4:42.01. Other area top-three finishes come from Tamaqua’s Lexi Kerstetter (2nd, 100 back) and Rebecca Kanaskie (3rd, 100 breast), Northern Lehigh’s Jose Avila (2nd, 500 free) and Wyatt Delans (2nd, 100 breast), and Marian’s Tim Dando (3rd, 500 free).
