I was at the meeting and concur with the completion and composition of this commission. Councilman Jack Soberick is capable of directing the commission and finally presenting the Lansford Borough Council with recommendations to hire police officers.
However, I have issues with this statement in the article: “Others were appointed and also resigned due to public scrutiny.”
“Public Scrutiny: meaning something is being looked at very carefully, often due to suspicion or a need for verification.”
My resignation, as well as that of the others had nothing whatsoever to do with “public scrutiny” and it was inaccurate to report them as such.
The Civil Service Commission consists of volunteers who desire to be a part of the process for appointing Police. The Commission is separate from Borough Council and operates independently from Council. I was appointed, sworn in, and from that point on saw the Council continuing to interfere worth the process. I wanted to meet and get started. Every time discussions came up with no meetings scheduled. I resigned.
I was not the only appointee to resign. Others followed suit. I know these appointees and their reasons for resigning had absolutely nothing to do with “Public Scrutiny.”
