March 4, 2005 — Tied after three quarters, the Northwestern girls use a big fourth frame to earn a 40-28 victory over George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs. Amanda McGimpsey scores all seven of her points in the final period as the Tigers, coached by Chris Deutsch, outscore their opponent by a 17-5 margin to win their first-ever state contest. Dana Stellar finishes with a team-high 13 points for Northwestern, whose defense forces 28 turnovers and holds Engineering and Science to 38 points under their average.
