State police at Frackville - crashes
State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following crashes:
• Angel L. Sanchez, 26, of Hughestown, was injured after a one-vehicle crash at 9:41 p.m. Feb. 22 on Interstate 81 in Delano Township.
Police said he was transported by personnel from the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS corps to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale.
They said he was driving a 2013 Honda Civic southbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the car and it traveled off the roadway and overturned.
Police said Sanchez was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
• Police responded to a hit-and-run at 7:07 p.m. Feb. 22 on the Clamtown Road (Route 443) in Walker Township.
They said a vehicle traveling north struck the back of a 2021 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Clint A. Maidenford, 42, of Joliett, before fleeing the scene.
Maidenford was uninjured, and the F-150 had minor damage, police said.
• Austin H. Zukosky, 28, of Cressona, had possible injuries after a one-vehicle crash at 11:48 a.m. Feb. 20 on Fairview Street, Rush Township.
Police said he left the crash scene and went to an unknown medical facility for an evaluation.
They said Zukosky was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado east when it traveled off the road and hit a utility pole. The vehicle had disabling damage.
Police said he was identified by a coworker who was present at the scene and that his identity was confirmed by the human resources department of his employer.
Zukosky was charged with driving while his operating privileges are suspended or revoked, according to police.
• Karen I. Owens, 78, of Barnesville, was injured after a two-vehicle crash at 3:11 p.m. Feb. 26 at the intersection of Route 209 and Catawissa Street, Schuylkill Township.
Police said she was transported by personnel from the Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale.
Police said she was driving a 2017 Toyota RAV4 southeast on Catawissa Street when she failed to clear the intersection after stopping at a stop sign and crossed into the path of a 2007 Lexus IS300 driven by Christian E. Cohoon, 50, of Nesquehoning.
Police said the Lexus struck the Toyota, resulting in disabling damage to both vehicles, which were towed from the scene.
Police said Cohoon was uninjured.
• Patrick M. Vaughn, 42, of Berwick, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 5:56 p.m. Feb. 28 on Interstate 81 in Ryan Township.
Police said he was driving a 2019 Kia Sorento southbound when he became distracted while looking for cigarettes. The vehicle left the roadway and hit a dirt/rock embankment on the west side of the highway.
Vaughn was cited for careless driving, according to police.
