Man resists arrest, injures three officers
A Lehighton man has been charged with injuring multiple police officers following an incident early Saturday morning in the borough.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Ivan Centeno of the Lehighton Borough Police Department in the case against Lucas Long, 39:
At 2:02 a.m., the Lehighton Borough Police Department was dispatched to a home on Stedman Avenue for a report of a domestic incident.
A woman called and while attempting to report a physical assault, dropped the phone and could be heard yelling on the line.
On a second call back, the woman was reporting she was hit and spit on by Long, as yelling and screaming could be heard on the line.
Officers Christopher Novak and Centeno of the Lehighton Borough Police Department arrived on location, as did officer Frank Buonaiuto of the Franklin Township Police Department.
The woman came out of the residence and said her boyfriend, Long, came home from the bar intoxicated.
She said Long struck her in the face.
She had a swollen upper lip and was disheveled, crying and shaking.
The victim claimed Long stated he was going to kill her and leave her body in the Lehigh River.
While interviewing the victim, Long emerged from the residence, belligerent, yelling and visibly intoxicated.
Novak attempted to speak with Long and Long unprovoked, struck Novak in the face, causing Novak to fall to the ground as Centeno and Buonaiuto attempted to take Long into custody.
Long actively continued to strike officers and resist being taken into custody.
Officers needed to deploy their Taser to subdue Long’s aggressive actions and bring him into compliance.
All three officers suffered injuries during the incident and needed to be medically checked at local hospitals.
One officer had a separated shoulder, and the other officers had minor operable injuries.
Long faces charges on three counts of aggravated assault, and one count each of resist arrest/other law enforcement, simple assault, harassment, and terrorist threats with intent to terrorize another.
He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing March 11 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
