Schuylkill County Court
The following sentences were handed down recently in Schuylkill County Court:
• Erick Thompson, 35, of Lebanon, faces 17 to 37 years in state prison on rape and aggravated assault charges from two cases. Judge Frederick Hobbs sentenced Thompson to 8½ to 17 years in prison on a charge of aggravated assault. The sentence is consecutive with a sentence of 9½ to 20 years in prison on rape and related charges from another case.
Judge William Burke also sentenced Thompson to 5 to 10 years on a charge of aggravated assault and 18 to 36 months on a charge of terroristic threats from the aggravated assault case. Both of those sentences were made concurrent. In that case, Thompson will have to pay the costs of prosecution, plus another $400.
• Kevin T. Zimmerman, 69, of Pottsville, was sentenced by Judge James Goodman to 3 to 23 months in county prison on a charge of ethnic intimidation leveled by the Pottsville Police Department for an incident on May 29, 2019.
Zimmerman was also sentenced to 18 months of probation on a charge of terroristic threats, plus 12 months of probation each on charges of false imprisonment, reckless endangerment and simple assault. He will also will have to pay the costs of prosecution, plus another $400.
• Carol Ann Evitts Schaeffer, 60, of Saint Clair, was sentenced by Judge Frederick Hobbs to 8 to 16 years in state prison on a charge of possession with intent to deliver. Schaeffer was also sentenced to another 4 years and 9 months to 7 years and 8 months on five other charges concurrently. She will also will have to pay the costs of prosecution, plus another $500.
• Anthony J. Maziarz, 41, of Ashland, was sentenced by Judge James Goodman to 2 to 6 years in state prison on a charge of aggravated assault leveled by Butler Township police for an incident on Oct. 16, 2025. Maziarz will have to pay the costs of prosecution, plus another $400.
• Allison Freil, 51, of Barnesville, was sentenced by Judge Andrew Serina to 72 hours to 6 months in county prison on a driving under the influence charge made by state police at Frackville.
Freil will be paroled after serving the minimum sentence, and must pay the costs of prosecution, plus two, $1,000 fines, and another $650. She must also perform 10 hours of community service.
• Sandy Duran, 34, of Frackville, was sentenced by Judge Andrew Serin to 1 to 2 years in state prison on a charge of criminal use of a communication facility made by the state Department of Corrections. Duran must also pay the costs of prosecution, plus another $400.
