The Carbon Youth Basketball League recently held their grades 5/6 championship games.
In girls action, Jim Thorpe captured the title. The Olympians were coached by Leanne Clee, Ryan Confer and Rachel Witner. Members of the team included Ava Clee, Carlee Confer, Chloe Confer, Emberlynn Persavage, Annaliese Remmel, Konstance Volovski, and Cassidy Witner.
The Lehighton Indians, led by coaches Jeremy Stein, Jared Smith and Danielle Uyvari, finished as runner-ups. The team posted an undefeated record during the regular season.
Thorpe also claimed the boys title, defeating Panthers Black in the championship game.
The Olympians were coached by Pete McElmoyle and John Skrapits. Members of the team included Nick Dedinsky, Bentley Heydt, Ivan Ilienko, Jay McElmoyle, Jagger McElmoyle, Carter Skrapits, and Shane Stoeckel.
Panther Valley’s team, which went undefeated during the regular campaign, was led by Ben Porambo, Carino Colancecco, Pat Crampsie and Jeff Semuta.
In addition to Panther Black, the Panther Valley Win-ning Warriors also ended regular-season play undefeated.
Overall, there were 12 girls teams and 19 boys teams in the CYBL 5/6 grade this season.
The games were held at the Panther Valley Intermediate School with the help of Quayyahm & Monique Floyd, and the Panther Valley administration.
