Police: Tamaqua man stole from employer
A Tamaqua man was sent to the Schuylkill County Prison on charges he stole money from a borough establishment where he works.
Tamaqua police said Charles Lash, 41, Tamaqua, faces charges of theft, burglary and criminal trespass from the recent incident.
According to police, officers were called to Hiller’s Hideaway on Feb. 11 and spoke to an owner regarding recent thefts. The owner told police that a man who helps manage the Tamaqua Pool League visited on Feb. 8 to collect money and found that it had been taken from the box where it and score sheets are stored.
In addition, the owner said that on Feb. 9, an employee from Sunshine Gaming attempted to collect money from two skills machines at Hiller’s and found them empty.
The owner then reviewed security camera footage and learned that around 4 a.m. Feb. 7, Lash broke into the bar and stole money from several different places. Footage shows Lash going through money bags and envelopes and breaking into the skills machine.
Police said the owner noted that Lash works at Hiller’s as a cook.
Police said Hiller stole $168 from the Tamaqua Pool League; $1,932 from the skills machines; $141 from a bank bag, and $35 from an American Cancer Society fundraiser envelope.
He was arraigned on the charges and sent to prison in lieu of $75,000 cash bail.
Tamaqua police charged Alysha Hartshorn, 39, Tamaqua, with harassment and simple assault following a Feb. 22 domestic dispute.
Police were called to the 9:46 dispute and found Hartshorn outside and yelling toward the front door when a man appeared.
Officers spoke to the man who said he was sitting on a couch and had just set his cellphone alarm for work. He told police that Hartshorn sat on his lap and attempted to take the cellphone from his pocket while she accused him of cheating on her.
When the man tried to push her away, police said Hartshorn threw an ashtray at his face. Police said the man had a small mark on his face.
A witness at the home confirmed the man’s report. Hartshorn was arraigned and sent to the Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $5,000 percentage bail.
