February 20, 2001 — Domenico Rizzi pours in a game-high 22 points to help Tamaqua edge Palmerton by a 49-48 score in a District 11 opening round contest. Rizzi connects on eight of his 12 free throws and also hits a pair of three-pointers in lifting the Blue Raiders, coached by Ed Titus, into the quarterfinals. The winners, who shoot 11-of-16 from the charity stripe in the final period, also receive nine points from Scott Murphy, while Mark Yocum chips in with seven. For the Blue Bombers, whose season ends with the narrow defeat, Craig Steigerwalt, Tony Chupa and Mark Amorim all share team-high honors with 11 points apiece.
