PV Blueprint community organizing road cleanup
The Panther Valley Blueprint Community is organizing a four-borough roadside cleanup in April and is inviting residents, families, businesses, churches and civic groups to join the effort.
An organizational meeting for those wishing to volunteer will be held March 2 at 6 p.m. at the Panther Valley High School auditorium.
The Panther Valley-wide effort will bring together volunteers from Nesquehoning, Lansford, Summit Hill and Coaldale to care for and beautify the community.
The goal is to clean nearly 15 miles of roadway that spans all four boroughs along Routes 209 and 902 and hopefully remove at least 80 bags of trash, organizers said.
The Blueprint team is partnering with the state Department of Transportation, local police and emergency management for the cleanup, which will be held April 25.
Safety guidance, trash bags, grabbers, vests, gloves, transportation to from designated cleanup sites and lunch will be provided.
Everyone is welcome, but children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult or guardian. Volunteers are asked to wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
The Blueprint team believes with enough volunteers the roadways can be divided into half-mile sections with teams of at least two at each. Volunteers will meet at a designated area at 9 a.m.
Drivers will be needed to transport some teams to their cleanup assignments, and after a full morning of work lunch will be provided at the Panther Valley High School cafeteria.
Organizers believe this event is more than picking up trash, but a way to build goodwill across the Panther Valley, increase the borough’s curb appeal, create visible positive change, and allow people to take ownership and pride in the region.
