Parents face child endangerment charges

Police in Monroe County this week executed a search warrant at a Tobyhanna home and found a “significant amount” of fentanyl controlled substances, resulting in the arrest of two parents.

District Attorney Michael Mancuso said in a press release that Natan Ruzhanskity, 50, and Stephanie Scalfino, 44, were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Danielle Travaligne on charges of child endangerment.

Mancuso said that on Feb. 11 detectives from his office received information from officials of the Monroe County Children and Youth Services regarding suspected drug use inside a residence where minor children reside.

During the search, he said, “multiple controlled substances” were found, in addition to the quantity of fentanyl.

The district attorney said the county Youth Services personnel continue to remain involved with the family to ensure the safety and well-being of the children.

Mancuso, meanwhile, encourages anyone struggling with substance use disorder to seek assistance.

He said help is available through the Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative at leti@monroecountyda.com.
