NW’s Slaski brothers medal in D-11 2A diving

NW’s Slaski brothers medal in 2A diving, Hayden returns to states

The goal was a return trip to states — and Hayden Slaski earned it at the District 11 Class 2A Diving Championships on Tuesday.

The Northwestern Lehigh junior finished second at Parkland High School, while his younger brother Harper placed third to give the Slaskis a family finish among the meet’s medalists.

Pottsville’s Adam Klinger repeated as district champion with 520.50 points, but Slaski made him earn it.

The Northwestern junior led through the opening seven dives before Klinger moved ahead in the eighth round and held the top spot through the finals. Slaski totaled 510.90 points to claim the silver medal.

The final margin was fewer than 10 points after 11 rounds of diving.

Slaski, who won the district title two years ago and placed seventh at the PIAA Championships last season to earn his first state medal, built his early advantage with a steady list highlighted by a reverse 1½ somersault and a forward dive with two twists midway through the meet. He closed with a strong forward double pike to secure second.

Freshman Harper Slaski followed with 390.95 points in his first district appearance, holding third place from the opening round through the finals to complete the sibling podium finish.

Northwestern Lehigh does not field a scholastic swimming or diving team, leaving the brothers to train independently while competing under the school’s banner.

Luke Anderson of Allentown Central Catholic placed fourth (313.85), followed by Pottsville’s Colin Kline (299.05) and Spencer Prestileo (277.00).

Klinger and Hayden Slaski advance to the PIAA Class 2A Championships, while Harper Slaski finished just one place shy of a qualifying spot in his debut season.

In the Class 3A competition, Freedom’s Cody Smith captured the district title with 598.75 points. Parkland’s Charlie Epstein placed second (531.45), and teammate CJ Denton finished third (463.65), followed by Ari Levin of Parkland (442.00).

Liberty’s Everett Collins (346.60) and Parkland’s Adam Linchuk (329.20) rounded out the top six, with Liberty’s Daniel Rasmussen (312.45), Easton’s Justin Uhler (295.75) and Northampton’s Mason James (290.80) completing the standings.

UP NEXT ... The Class 2A and 3A girls competitions will be held Wednesday at Parkland.

LOOKING AHEAD ... Hayden Slaski will compete in the PIAA Class 2A championships March 13 at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium.
