75 Effort friends, family gather at sleigh riding party

When Mother Nature delivers brutal cold and lots of snow, a sleigh riding party may just be the ticket.

That’s exactly what Jarrad Altemose discovered on Jan. 31.

Altemose planned a sleigh riding party, and to his surprise, not just a few family and friends showed up.

More than 75 people of all ages arrived at his “Nanny and Pop Pop’s” house in Effort for the outdoor party.

Altemose’s aunt, Kelli George, said the day provided good, old-fashioned fun.

She said that sleds, snowmobiles and a truck bed liner “added speed, laughs and everlasting memories.”

The day, George said, was a good lesson for the younger generation and proved that “fun without electronics is very possible.”

George suggested that others do the same.

“Bring out the Blackstone grill, fill it with hamburgers and hot dogs. Have a crock pot of chili and special treats from family and friends — you can’t go wrong,” George said. “Add a blazing fire for warmth and a recipe for success is for sure!”
