Carbon County Commissioners
Carbon County commissioners recently acted on or discussed the following matters during their bimonthly meeting.
• Reappointed Monroe Cressley of Lehighton to a five-year term on the hospital authority. Term ends Dec. 31, 2030.
• Accepted the resignations of Marshall Walters from the Carbon County Industrial Development Authority, effective Jan. 24; and Mary (Phyllis) Rochette from the Carbon County Redevelopment Authority, effective Jan. 21.
• Approved a purchase/service agreement with Edwards Business Systems of Wyomissing for one copier for the Children and Youth Services office at a total cost of $5,747.48, as well as one copier at a total cost of $8,135.67 for the Planning and Development office.
• Approved a memorandum of understanding between the correctional facility and Carbon Career & Technical Institute to provide ABE and Career Pathway educational services to criminal offenders to attain a high school equivalency diploma while incarcerated. There is no cost to the county, with funding to be secured through Lehigh Carbon County College from the state Department of Education Federal Literacy Grant. The contract runs through June 30.
• Approved the annual maintenance agreement with Johnson Controls Fire Protection LP of Allentown for the CCTV security camera system at the prison at an annual cost of $8,122.
• Approved a three-year service agreement with Johnson Controls for inspections and maintenance of the fire alarm system at the prison. Year one and year two cost is $8,483 annually; year three is $8,737.49.
• Approved a proposal from Johnson Controls of Wilkes-Barre to replace equipment in the commissioners office at a cost of $3,160.92.
• Approved a proposal with Johnson Controls of Allentown to replace one audible visible device on the first floor by the sheriff’s office in the courthouse at a cost of $245.
• Ratified the Hazardous Materials Response Fund budget for July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026 in the amount of $6,929.
• Approved a revised GIS Data fee schedule, effective Feb. 16.
• Ratified an agreement with Shepherd House Inc. to provide services as the lead agency under the State Food Program through June 30, 2026.
• Approved the notification of acceptance of invoice in the amount of $69,300 for the 2024-25 Juvenile Probation Services Grant. The money is for salary reimbursement of the juvenile court office.
• Ratified the annual report to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for the liquid fuels tax fund account for both unencumbered and encumbered amounts for four bridge projects in the county.
• Approved lease agreements for a 2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer for Area Agency on Aging; a 2026 Dodge Durango for Children and Youth; and a 2026 Ford Police Interceptor utility vehicle for the adult probation office. It was noted the adult probation vehicle replaces two vehicles that had been in service within that department.
• Ratified a declaration of disaster emergency in the county for Jan. 24, due to the winter storm that moved through the area.
• Adopted an updated fee schedule for the Carbon County Planning Commission Subdivision and Land Development reviews.
