Police Chief Jason Nothstein identified the man killed in the Walnutport crash as Francesco Scutari, 86, of Towamensing Township.

Nothstein said the incident occurred Friday morning between a tractor trailer and an SUV.

Walnutport Police Department, Northern Valley EMS, and Diamond Fire Company were dispatched to North Best Avenue (Route 145) and Spruce Street for a motor vehicle crash with injuries and entrapment.

It was reported that an unconscious person was still inside the vehicle. An officer was on location one minute after dispatch and found the male still inside one of the vehicles, unresponsive and heavily entrapped. The officer checked for a pulse, but the victim was already deceased.

The crash is still being investigated by the Walnutport Police Department, and Northampton County Coroner’s Office, with the assistance from Lehigh Township Police Department and Moore Township Police Department.

Other departments assisting at the scene were Slatington Fire Department, Lehigh Township Fire Department, and Palmerton Fire Department with traffic control and detour. A1 Towing Service assisted in removing the vehicles from the roadway and assisting in the cleaning up of the roadway.
