Palmerton has accepted the resignation of its assistant fire chief.

Borough council on Thursday accepted the resignation of Palmerton Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Shawn Rios.

The council thanked Rios for his service.

“We will be seeking interest from our fire company members who will be seeking to fill that position,” borough Manager Autumn Canfield said.

Also on Thursday, borough council authorized advertisement with PennBid for sewage sludge removal.

Canfield said the sludge has to be removed by certified haulers in order to properly remove it.

In an unrelated matter, Councilman Kris Hoffner announced that the Palmerton Fire Department is hosting a rose sale for Valentine’s Day from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. until they sell out.
