Parochial school students from Jim Thorpe, Palmerton and Lehighton finished as the top finishers in the annual Carbon-East Schuylkill District 5 Catholic Youth Organization Spelling Bee.

Maureen Stoffa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Stoffa and a student at St., Joseph’s School, Jim Thorpe, won the sixth grade competition, while the top “speller” in seventh grade was Ann Erschen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Erschen and a student at St. John Neumann School, Palmerton.

The eighth grade winners was Rosemarie Miele, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Miele who attends SS. Peter and Paul School, Lehighton.

Judges for the competition were Attorney Marianne Lavelle of Lehighton and Mrs. Doris Rothermel and Joseph L. Boyle, both of Jim Thorpe.
