Lehighton Water Authority works on water main break

Lehighton is asking residents experiencing high water loss to report their issues.

The Lehighton Water Authority posted word of the situation late Friday morning on its Facebook page.

“We are currently experiencing a high water loss event somewhere within our distribution system, so we have reason to believe there is a significant leak somewhere, but after our crews have undergone very extensive leak detection measures, we have yet to find a promising lead.

“We need to get this issue resolved as soon as possible to maintain a safe drinking water supply and fire protection possible to maintain a safe drinking water supply and fire protection for our customers, so we are respectfully requesting some assistance.”

Contacted Friday afternoon, borough Manager Dane DeWire said the Water Authority has been unavailable recently to help with snow removal due to the water matter.

“The borough is contracting out snow removal to third parties now,” DeWire said.

The Lehighton Water Authority said anyone who is experiencing any of the following, they are asked to contact the Lehighton Water Authority at 610-377-1912 so they can investigate your concern:

• Lower than normal water pressure.

• Cloudy or discolored water.

• Unusually melted snow in your yard.

• Noises, hissing, or vibrating on your home’s water service line (where it enters your home).

• Homes that you own/loved one’s homes that are vacant.

If after hours, contact the Carbon County 911 Center at 570-325-9111 and then contact their on-call staff.
