Lehighton has signed off on bonuses for a pair of recently hired borough administrators.
After a near 40-minute executive session, borough council on a 5-1 vote Monday approved a $2,500 bonus to both the assistant borough manager, as well as treasurer.
Councilman Joe Flickinger was opposed.
Councilman Steve Hawk was absent.
In September, borough council made separate motions to hire the top candidates for the newly created assistant borough manager position, as well as a treasurer position.
After that meeting, borough Manager Dane DeWire declined to name the people until they accepted the positions and passed their screenings.
While no discussion on the topic took place at that meeting, DeWire released the names of the employees after the meeting.
Brooke Lichtenwalter accepted the newly created assistant borough manager position at the rate of $58,000, with a start date of Sept. 22.
Before accepting the position, Lichtenwalter had served as secretary/treasurer in Washington Township.
Tara Takerer accepted the treasurer position at the rate of $56,000, with a start date of Sept. 22.
Takerer had been the treasurer in Bowmanstown Borough.
