Turnpike crashes
State police at the Pocono barracks reported the following crashes that occurred on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike:
• Edward J. O’ Flynn Jr., 45, of Langhorne, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 4:15 a.m. Jan. 30 at mile marker 82.4 in Penn Forest Township. He was uninjured in the incident.
Police said he was driving a 2020 Mack Truck southbound when it drove through a guide rail and struck an embankment on the right side of the road.
The truck had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
• No one was hurt in an incident at 2:20 p.m. Jan. 29 at mile marker 70 in Washington Township.
Police said it occurred as a 2026 Volvo and a 2023 Toyota Tacoma were northbound in the right lane of travel when ice/snow dislodged from the trailer of the Volvo and struck the windshield of the Tacoma.
Police did not identify the drivers of the vehicles.
• Two tractor-trailers were involved in a crash at 10:05 a.m. Jan. 29 at mile marker 80.5 in Penn Forest Township.
Police said it occurred when a 2021 Freightliner, traveling north, crossed into the left lane and was struck by a 2007 Freightliner whose operator was unable to avoid the collision.
Police did not identify the drivers of the rigs but said the driver of the 2021 Freightliner was cited for a signaling violation.
• Maria M. Haas, 45, and Jessica Smosny, 26, of both of Lehighton, were injured after a one-vehicle crash at 4:12 p.m. Jan. 16 at mile marker 60 in South Whitehall Township.
Police said they were transported by personnel from the Northern Valley Ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest Campus, Salisbury Township.
They said Stacy M. Moon, 39, of Philadelphia, had “possible injuries” but did not require a medical services transport from the scene.
Police said the crash occurred as Haas was driving a 2003 Buick Century in which Smosny and Moon were passengers. They said the vehicle was traveling southbound when it hit a concrete barrier on the left side of the road before striking a mile post sign on the right embankment.
Haas was cited after the crash, according to police.
