Put a Vote to the PA Deer Hunting Opener

Pennsylvania Game Commission proposal continues to fuel discontent on the deer hunting opening day controversy. The opener was changed by the PA Game Commission in 2019 from the Monday after Thanksgiving to the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Since then, there has been much debate from PA hunters on both sides of the issue over the PA deer hunting season opener.

The members of this commission are all appointed by the Governor and therefore cannot be elected by PA hunters. The only way hunters have been able to voice their opinions and concerns are through attending Commission public meetings and through social media.

If hunters want the deer rifle season to open on the Monday after Thanksgiving, they should hold the Governor, who appointed the people making the decisions, accountable and not the legislators.

One proposed solution is to create the opportunity for registered PA hunters to vote on the issue when they are renewing their hunting licenses. This allows the majority to provide the Commission with their desire.
