A request for a proposed solar facility at the Lowes Store in Mahoning Township is on tap for tonight.

The township’s zoning hearing board will meet at 6 o’clock regarding an application by EDPRNA DG Lehighton, LLC.

The applicant seeks an appeal of the township zoning officer’s Nov. 14 decision that the applicant’s proposed solar facility is not an “Accessory Solar Collector” use permitted by right in the C-1 — Planned Commercial Zoning District.

The applicant also request a use variance from a section of the zoning ordinance to allow a solar facility be located in the C-1 Zoning District as a “Commercial Solar Power Generation” use.

The premise is zoned C-1 pursuant to the township’s zoning ordinance.

The applicant intends to install solar panels on the existing rooftop of the Lowes Store at 1204 Blakeslee Boulevard East.
