The Carbon County Coroner’s Office said one person was killed Saturday in a head-on crash in the area of 2897 E. Blakeslee Boulevard, near the entrance to 443 Auto Sales in Mahoning Township.
The crash involved a car and a stake body truck. The car came to rest against a snow bank on a private commercial parking lot while the truck came to rest broadside on the roadway.
A female driver was pronounced deceased at 4 p.m. by Deputy Coroner Erika Reinheimer.
The incident remains under active investigation by the Carbon County Coroner’s Office, in conjunction with the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office and the Pennsylvania State Police Lehighton Station.
The coroner said the woman has been identified however, her identity is being withheld at this time to allow the family appropriate time to grieve this tragic loss.
According to reports at the scene, a male passenger was seriously injured.
Members of the Mahoning Valley fire company responded working to extricate the injured man who was treated at the scene by members of the Mahoning Valley ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being transported to a nearby trauma center.
