Nesquehoning Borough Council
Nesquehoning Borough Council acted on or discussed the following items during the monthly meeting on Wednesday. Council members Paul Kattner, Suzanne Smith and Bill Bamford were absent.
• Councilwoman Lois Kuba announced that the electronic speed signs have been delivered and will be installed when the weather allows for the installation. Four will be stationary, installed at the entrances to the borough, while one will be a mobile unit that can be moved as needed.
• Another boot drive fundraiser to benefit the three fire companies is being planned for the spring.
• The Emergency Operations Plan for the borough is being updated.
• Approved ARRO Consulting as the borough engineer.
• Adopted ordinance 2026-01, which amends the hardwiring requirement for smoke detectors/heat/carbon monoxide detectors in rental properties. The change has been published on the borough website and was due to recent rental inspections.
• Approved the tax levy for 2026.
• Approved Rose Chapello to fill the vacant seat on the borough water authority.
• Began the committee for the water department transition as the water authority dissolution begins.
• Appointed Advanced Code for code enforcement for the borough. Councilman Josh Jacobs abstained.
• Adopted resolution 2026-02, which sets the fee schedule for the year. The resolution is posted on the borough’s website.
• Authorized Deb DelFranco to attend the PSAB conference at the end of May in Hershey.
• Approved an increase for part-time snow plowing drivers to $20 per hour.
