The Northwestern and Weatherly boys both ran their winning streaks to five games with victories on Thursday.

The Tigers pulled away from Palmerton, while the Wreckers hit the century mark in defeating Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech.

BOYS BASKETBALL

N’western-Palmerton

Northwestern took control with a big second quarter, and the Tigers ran their winning streak to five with a 62-42 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

Malachi Coleman hit three three-pointers in the second frame to help his team extend a one-point first-quarter advantage to 14 by halftime.

Coleman finished with a game-high 19 points, which included five treys, while Mason Bollinger contributed 10.

The Bombers received a team-high 15 points from Brady Reph, with all his points coming from beyond the arc.

Weatherly-CMVT

Ian McKeegan scored a career-high 35 points, and Weatherly broke the century mark in posting a 103-71 non-league victory over Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech.

The Wreckers opened up a 14-point first quarter lead behind Dominick Kokinda’s nine points, and were never threatened after that.

McKeegan, who helped his team register their fifth straight win, especially excelled in the middle frames scoring 10 points in both the second and third quarters.

Corbin Wagner added 23 points, while Niko Saldukas tallied 16 and Kokinda finished with 13.

Minersville won its 15th game in a row, coasting to a 64-44 Schuylkill League victory over visiting Panther Valley.

Shazier Bethea and Nolan Plesnarski each scored 12 first-half points as the Miners raced to a 21-point halftime lead.

Bethea ended with a game-high 21 points, while Plesnarski finished with 15 — all on three-pointers.

The Panthers were paced by Danny Wehr’s 18 points, while Jake Moyer and Jarell Thomas both chipped in with seven.

Pocono Mountain West built a big halftime lead and cruised to a 77-33 EPC victory over host Pleasant Valley.

Kyon Coles scored 12 of his game-high 23 points in the first half as the Panthers raced to a 40-15 advantage. The winners, leaders of the EPC Monroe Division, also received 21 points from Aydin Smith.

For the Bears, Sebastian Sacci and Jake Loch both produced a team-high nine points.

PM WEST

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Panther Vy.-Tamaqua

Tamaqua used a big third quarter to help gain a 45-35 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley.

The Blue Raiders led by just two points at halftime, but outscored the Panthers 21-4 in the third to take control.

Millie Black paced Tamaqua with a game-high 17 points, while Lauren Ligenza and Elaina Coleman both ended with nine. The Raiders also received nine rebounds from Ceanna Gormley, and eight boards, five assists and five steals from Leah Black.

PV’s Lucy Kocha tallied a team-high 13 points. Caroline Breslin chipped in with nine.

PANTHER VALLEY

Weatherly raced to an early lead, but couldn’t hold it and ended up dropping a 38-29 Schuylkill League contest to Tri-Valley.

Kelly Reiner netted eight of her team-high 12 points in the first quarter as the Wreckers built a 10-3 advantage.

The Bulldogs, however, battled back to take a halftime lead and then extended the margin in the second half.

Avery Miller had 17 points for Tri-Valley, 10 of them coming in the third quarter. Weatherly also received 11 from Maci Kane.

Pocono Mountain West won its fourth straight game, posting a 46-31 EPC victory over Pleasant Valley.

The Panthers outscored the Bears in each of the first three quarters to take control.

Michaela Smith tallied a team-high 14 points for the winners, with 10 of them coming in the second half.

PV’s Amaya Fuentes led all scorers with 18 points.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain swept visiting Tamaqua in Schuylkill League action.

Despite the loss, the Raiders received multiple individual wins from both Shaylee Gormley and Savannah Wilson.

Gormley captured the 100 and 200 freestyle events, while Wilson grabbed firsts in both the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.

Tamaqua also received a win from Kate Behun in the 100 backstroke.
