Mengle to fill Weatherly council vacancy

Weatherly Borough Council welcomed a new member on Wednesday.

Traci Mengle was appointed to fill the vacancy left when Michael Bellizia became mayor/council president earlier this month.

Council received two letters of interest regarding the vacant seat. Mengle submitted one, as did Kelly Medico, who recently came to council to address a neighborhood concern about the snow ban.

Bellizia said that council had only been aware of one letter of interest before their meeting and asked the solicitor if it was proper to act on the letter received first.

Solicitor Jim Nanovic said that council should be made aware of both names, because they don’t have to accept either of them.

He said council should open nominations and that someone might nominate Mengle and someone might nominate Medico. Nominations remain open until council is done nominating.

Councilman Norman Richie nominated Mengle. There were no other nominations. Council closed nominations and voted to appoint Mengle.

Weatherly District Judge Joseph Homanko then administered the oath of office to Mengle, and she took her seat on council for the remainder of the meeting.
