Weatherly Area School Board

The Weatherly Area School board approved the following measures last week:

• Nicole McKeegan as a part-time paraprofessional, 5.75 hours/day, 186 days/year, at a rate of $13.75 per hour.

• The Weatherly Music Department trip to New York City on Feb. 19 to see “The Outsiders.” The trip is paid for by the students and by fundraising efforts.

“It’s a good trip,” board member Laura Marasco said. “My one daughter went last year, and it’s a good trip for them.”

• The Weatherly Hall of Fame Committee the use of the middle school cafeteria and kitchen on Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. for the Hall of Fame Dinner.

• The 2026-27 CLIU General operating budget. The district’s share is $819,040.

• The Trane HVAC Contract at a renewal rate of $10,461.56 if paid in full prior to commencement of agreement.

• Will apply for a facilities improvement grant to replace the high school boiler system.

• The Personnel Committee will now hold meetings at 5 p.m. on the evening of the school’s caucus meetings, which are the first Wednesday of the month.

Sports update

Ryan Binder, chair of the Athletic Committee, gave a report on the school districts athletic program:

• The “Meet the Wreckers” evening to kick off the Winter Sports Season on Nov. 14 with introductions of sports teams was well-attended by the community.

• Winter sports teams are doing well and about halfway through the season.

• The varsity boys basketball team has seven wins this season so far, and Ian McKeegan scored his 1,000th point in the 61-57 win over Lincoln Leadership, becoming only the 20th boys basketball player in the school history to reach 1,000 points. The team is currently the second seed in the District 11 Class A standing.

• The varsity girls basketball team has had three wins so far, and also are the second seed in District 11 Class A standings.

• The 7th grade boys basketball team has a 3-3 record; the 8th grade boys team has a 4-3 record; and the 7th and 8th grade girls basketball team has a 5-1 record.

• The varsity and junior high cheerleading squads were recognized for their support for the teams and bring enthusiasm to the fans.

“The athletes and coaches should all be commended for the hard work and the time they are putting in on a daily basis,” Binder said.

• Hall of Fame dedications will be Saturday and Senior Athlete Recognition Night will be held Feb. 5.
