Carbon County Commissioners

The Carbon County commissioners acted on or acknowledged the following items during their meeting recently.

• Adopted a resolution and certification of county matching funds for the 2026 Agricultural Conservation Easement Purchase program through the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. The county match total is $302,037.

• Approved an annual service agreement with Johnson Controls Fire Protection for the fire alarm system in the courthouse at a cost of $3,278. The agreement is in effect from April 1 through March 31, 2027.

• Approved a second annual service agreement with Johnson Controls for annual fire alarm inspections at several county buildings at a total cost of $6,787.

• Ratified a five-year grant agreement between Carbon-Monroe-Pike Drug & Alcohol and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the amount of $1,359,508.50. It is for operational services.

• Approved an agreement with Carbon Chamber & Economic Development Corp. to provide economic development assistance services and an annual county grant. This year’s grant is $148,722 plus the 2025 Consumer Price Index. The agreement is in effect until Dec. 31, 2029.

• Approved training for salary table setup and position budgeting through Tyler Technologies Inc. at a cost of $10,530.

• Approved seven project completion date extensions for various Community Development Block Grant program projects.

• Approved an annual maintenance agreement with Johnson Controls for the CCTV security camera system in the sheriff’s department at a cost of $9,452. The agreement is in effect from Feb. 1 through Jan. 31, 2027.

• Approved a five-year lease agreement with Bear Creek Plaza Holdings LLC of Jim Thorpe for space in the plaza for the Jim Thorpe/Penn Kidder Senior Center. The agreement costs $1,713.35 a month, an increase of $73.78 a month; and an additional $424.48 per month for common area maintenance.

• Approved a second extension to an agreement with North Penn Legal Services for ombudsman services at an annual cost of $44,547.

• Approved a lease agreement with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission for continued maintenance and operations through June 1.

Door decorating

• The annual Christmas door decorating contest winners were announced. This year’s winners were: first place, the Carbon County Parking Department with the theme “Grandma Got Run Over by A Reindeer”; second place, Mapping and Tax Assessment with a 3D snow globe; and third place, the Recorder of Deeds office with a winter scene.

The winners were selected through a voting process within the departments. Winners receive a pizza party.
