Local Roundup: Results from Jan. 22

The Palmerton girls wrestling team remained undefeated in dual matches with a Colonial League victory over Southern Lehigh on Thursday.

Others area winners included the Pleasant Valley girls basketball team, and the Tamaqua girls swim squad.

GIRLS WRESTLING

So. Lehigh-Palmerton

Palmerton picked up three pins and three forfeit wins to defeat Colonial League foe Southern Lehigh 36-24.

Alexxa Winger (130) took just 41 seconds to give the Bombers their first pin of the match.

Then with the score tied, Kyleigh and Nicole Jennings earned the next two falls at 170 and 235 to give Palmerton the lead and seal the victory.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Pleasant Vy.-NDES

A big second half propelled Pleasant Valley to a 59-45 non-league victory over Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg.

Kylie Fuentes started the comeback for the Bears with eight points in the third quarter and finished with 13 overall — all of them coming in the second half.

Noelle Wolff led PV — which trailed at halftime — with 16 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, while Amaya Fuentes finished with 15.

Olivia Protheroe had an impressive outing for the Spartans, tallying a game-high 31 points.

Blue Mountain outscored Panther Valley in each quarter to secure a 47-30 Schuylkill League victory.

Hailey Place led the Eagles with 14 points, while Delaney Walborn put up 11 — including three triples.

For the Panthers, Morgan Orsulak scored 10 points and Caroline Breslin added eight.

Jocelyn Chagolla totaled 15 points for the Blue Devils to lead all scorers.

Maci Kane led the Wreckers with eight points.

SWIMMING

N. Schuylkill-Tamaqua

The Tamaqua girls rolled to a 102-66 Schuylkill League victory over North Schuylkill to run its unbeaten string to seven straight.

Shaylee Gormley, Kate Behun and Savannah Wilson all won multiple events for the Lady Raiders, who are 6-0-1 over their last seven meets.

Gormley took the 100 and 200 freestyle races, while Behun captured both the 100 backstroke and 500 free. Wilson registered firsts in both the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.

Tamaqua, which won all three relay races, also received an individual victory from Audrey Nattress (100 butterfly).

In the boys meet, North Schuylkill triumphed by a 101-43 score.

The Raiders gained a first place from Brandon Temarantz in the 100 breaststroke.
