Tamaqua Area School Board continues to round out its district leadership team for the start of the 2026-27 school year.
On Tuesday, the board selected high school Principal Tom McCabe as the next assistant superintendent, filling the role currently held by Dr. Stephen Toth, who will become superintendent Aug. 26.
The leadership shift comes after Superintendent Ray Kinder announced his retirement late last year. He will continue with the district through late August when his contract ends.
McCabe started as a social studies teacher in the district in 2005, became assistant high school principal in 2011, and then high school principal in 2017.
Kinder pointed out that he and McCabe worked together during their tenures as assistant high school principal and high school principal and will continue to work together in their new roles.
McCabe said that he was grateful for the opportunity to serve the district and its students in the new position.
“I look forward to continue providing the best opportunity for success to our students and community,” McCabe said Wednesday morning.
