Steve Simchak of the Carbon County Office of Planning and Development attended last night’s meeting of the Lansford Borough Council to announce $98,389 is available to the borough under the Community Development Block Grant program.

At the same time, Phyllis Bolton of the county agency, was on hand to conduct a public hearing on a $500,000 grant for the borough’s storm sewer separation program.

Council president Rosemary Cannon said it had been discussed among council members it is obvious the project is a necessity. She said the borough has informed the state Department of Environmental Protection the borough will be taking action in the near future to alleviate the overabundance of storm water that has overtaxed the sewage plant.
