Fire destroys abandoned home in Lower Towamensing

An abandoned house was ravaged by fire Wednesday evening in Lower Towamensing Township.

Aquashicola Fire Chief Bill George said firefighters were dispatched at 5:36 p.m. to the home along Stoney Brooke Lane and Forest Inn Road.

Upon arrival, George said firefighters found the fire to be fully involved through the roof.

“There was nothing we could do,” George said. “It was strictly an exterior attack to put it out.”

George said the home is a total loss. There were no injuries.

“It was hard to get to it; there’s a stream in between, we had to lay lines by hand about 100 yards,” he said. “It wasn’t good conditions.”

George said it took firefighters about 90 minutes to get the fire under control.

He said the cause of the fire is undetermined, and added the incident is being investigated by a state fire marshal.

George said firefighters remained on scene for about two and a half hours.

He said also assisting at the scene were the Bowmanstown Fire Department, Palmerton Fire Department, Trachsville Fire Department, Franklin Township Fire Department, Polk Township Fire Department, and Palmerton Ambulance.

George stressed that firefighters had to deal with “very adverse working conditions, with the weather.

“We had good cooperation,” he said. “The guys did a really good job.”
