Tamaqua man charged in theft of injectable drugs worth $16K
A Tamaqua man was charged in the robbery of a driver who was delivering weight loss medications for a Bucks County pharmacy on Jan. 15.
According to the Bensalem Township police, Joshua Depree, 41, was jailed for his involvement.
Police said they were called to Smart Choice Pharmacy in Bensalem for a report of a strong-arm robbery.
An investigation revealed that three men assaulted a delivery driver who was dropping off medications, and stole two boxes containing Mounjaro, Ozempic and Trulicity.
Police said the popular weekly dose Type-2 diabetic drugs were valued at approximately $16,000.
According to police, the trio fled the scene and nearly struck a witness who was attempting to record the incident.
Police were able to locate and stop the vehicle. Inside were Dupree, of Tamaqua; Jahnoi Dawkins, 21, Albany, New York, and a 17-year-old boy from New York City. The trio was positively identified by the victim and taken into custody.
A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded the stolen items.
Police said the investigation revealed that the Dupree, Dawkins and the boy had traveled from New York to commit the crime.
According to officers, pharmacy staff reported that they had received suspicious phone calls and emails requesting information about the delivery order in the days leading up to the incident.
Dupree, Dawkins and the juvenile were all charged with robbery, theft, receiving stolen property, simple assault and other offenses.
Dupree was arraigned on the charges and sent to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on $150,000 percentage bail. Dawkins was also sent to prison and the juvenile was remanded to the Bucks County Youth Detention Center.
