S. Hill appoints Morana to board

A Summit Hill woman who often attends meetings of the borough council and sometimes raises questions or discussions with the board, became a member of the council Tuesday evening.

Joan Morana of East Ludlow Street was selected by a 5-0 vote of the council.

She was one of three residents who applied to fill the vacancy created by the resignation last week of Karen Ruzicka. Ruzicka was elected the town’s mayor, so she surrendered her seat on the council for the new position.

Also applying for the seat were Ruzicka’s husband, George Ruzicka, and Summit Hill businessman David Hiles.

Morana said in her letter of intent that she often questions things at council meetings and serving on the board would let her work toward helping to find solutions.

Just last month, Morana attended as an audience member and expressed her concern about the affordability of living in Summit Hill.

She was given a copy of the borough budget and told that if she had any suggestions on cost cutting to bring them to the council.

The council also filled three voting seats on the borough’s Recreation Commission. Four people had applied for the positions.

Reappointed to the commission with voting rights was Melissa Crampsie. Others named were Millie Ashmore and the Rev. Ruth Ann Christopher. Amber Zuber, an incumbent on the commission, was given social membership status.
