Local Roundup: Results from Jan. 12

Northwestern posted wins in both boys and girls basketball on Monday.

The Tigers teams took down Palisades in Colonial League action.

Other winners included the Jim Thorpe and Pleasant Valley boys, and the Marian and Lehighton girls.

Jim Thorpe-Saucon Valley

Pierre Gothard sank 14 of 18 free throws in his game-high 26-point effort, as Jim Thorpe downed Saucon Valley, 54-43, in Colonial League action.

Brody Schrantz added 18 points for the Olympians, who sealed the game with a 24-point fourth quarter.

Michael Magnotta led Saucon Valley with 12 points.

Palisades-Northwestern

After a slow first quarter, Northwestern pulled away from winless Palisades, and the Tigers sprinted to a 65-45 Colonial League victory.

Northwestern trailed 16-11 after the opening frame, but battled back to take a 27-25 halftime advantage. The Tigers took control in the third quarter outscoring Palisades, 21-6.

Brady Krimmel led Northwestern with 21 points and Mason Bollinger added 18. Blake Oglialoro was the leading scorer for Palisades with 16 points.

Sebastian Sacci scored eight of his 18 points in the final quarter to help lift Pleasant Valley past East Stroudsburg South, 60-52, in EPC action.

The Bears trailed 42-37 after three quarters, but Sacci and William Breuer — who had six of his 18 points in the final stanza — provided the spark for a 23-point outburst.

Marcel Stapler of the Cavaliers led all scorers with 19 points.

Steven Lozada poured in a game-high 19 points and Garrett Leiner added 14 for Salisbury, which won its ninth straight.

Cameron Pengelly paced Palmerton with 16 points, as the Blue Bombers dropped their sixth straight. Jared Grammes added 12, while Gaige McGowan finished with 11.

Solehi held the Bulldogs scoreless in the second quarter in building a 39-7 halftime lead.

Morgan Capuano and Parker Spigelmyer each had 13 points for Southern Lehigh, and Kellen Bauer had 10 for Northern Lehigh.

Hailey Jenkins of the Rough Riders put up an impressive 26 points to lead all players in scoring.

In a tightly-contested matchup, Southern Lehigh came back from an eight-point deficit to defeat Northern Lehigh 48-46 in Colonial League competition.

The Bulldogs led 38-30 after three quarters, but were outscored by the Spartans 18-8 in the fourth.

Eliana Marques led Solehi in scoring with 22 points — including four threes and a 6-for-6 effort at the free throw line. The Spartans ended 12-for-14 at the foul line.

Nolehi’s Tegan Simms led all scorers with 28 points, while teammate Jaylene Ramos chipped in with nine.

SWIMMING

Tamaqua-Moravian Aca.

The Tamaqua and Moravian Academy girls swam to an 80-80 tie in non-league action, while the Blue Raider boys dropped an 81-56 decision to the Lions.

Kate Behun and Savannah Wilson both registered a pair of individual wins for Tamaqua. Behun captured the 500 free and 100 backstroke, while Wilson touched first in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. The two were also part of a winning relay team.

The Raiders also received firsts from Shaylee Gormley (200 free) and Janna Brown (100 free), who both contributed to a pair of relay wins. In the boys meet, both Billy Coombe (500 free) and Brandon Temarantz (100 breast) posted wins for the Raiders.

Panther Valley dropped a 37-29 decision to Pine Grove.

The Panthers received a game-high 10 points from Cooper Lynn, while Isaac Schoenberger added six.

Lacy led the Cards with nine points.

Tamaqua-Schuylkill Haven

Schuylkill Haven posted a 43-18 victory over Tamaqua.

Runkle led the Hurricanes with 25 points, while Chayse Barron scored eight to pace the Raiders.

Weatherly-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain posted a 41-30 victory over Weatherly.

Carter Minnick had 13 points to lead the Wreckers, while Matthew Ryan added five.

The Eagles’ Anthony Amato led all scorers with 16 points.

7TH GRADE

Pine Grove-Panther Valley

Owen Alves had 12 points to help Panther Valley gain a 37-14 victory over Pine Grove.

PV also received nine points from Keion Wheeler, while Finn topped the Cardinals with 11.

Tamaqua-Schuylkill Haven

Tamaqua rolled to a 49-13 victory over Schuylkill Haven.

Chayse Barron scored 15 points to lead the Raiders, while Tanner Tirpak added 11 and Jakson Perez finished with 10.

Weatherly-Blue Mountain

Weatherly edged Blue Mountain by a 41-37 score.

Silas Zink poured in a game-high 19 points for the Wreckers, while Matthew Ryan contributed 11.

The Eagles were paced by Alex Fanelli’s 10 points.

JUNIOR HIGH

Mikayla Pugh scored 13 points to lead Weatherly to a 28-10 victory over Blue Mountain.

The winners also received six points from Sophia Durham, while the Eagles’ Lillian Keller ended with nine.
