Jason Green was named the winner of the 1996 Jim Thorpe American Legion Post 304 Essay Contest held recently under the topic “Should United States troops police the world?”

The Jim Thorpe Area High School student will receive a $100 savings bond for his winning entry.

Second and third places went to high school students Jennifer Davis and Joe Marzen, respectively. They will receive $50 savings bonds.

Judges for the event were Corinne Miller, guidance counselor at the Carbon County Vocational Technical School, William Davis, JTAHS English teacher, and Marianne Monteleone, a member of the JT Parent-Teacher Organization.
