The Carbon County Board of Commissioners yesterday appointed a temporary director for the county’s Office of Children and Youth Services.
Thomas Knappenberger of Jim Thorpe, a caseworker supervisor at the agency, was selected to fill the position when former director Joseph Hornick Jr. resigned at the end of the year. Hornick remains the head of the county’s Juvenile Probation office.
He previously told the county officials he could not handle both positions because the jobs had become more technical and time-consuming.
In addition to naming Knappenberger, the commissioners approved the hiring of L. Robert Achenbach, director of Human Services in Schuylkill County, as a consultant to help the county fill the position.
