A 46-year-old man from Effort is the victim of a theft by deception incident that occurred at 10 a.m. Dec. 15 on New York Boulevard, Polk Township, police said.

He reported to state police at the Lehighton barracks that he was told to purchase Apple gift cards to qualify for a personal loan.

The incident is under investigation, police said.
