Eldred Township seats Keller, McGinty as supervisors
Monday night brought a couple of firsts to the Eldred Township Board of Supervisors.
It was the first meeting as a supervisor for Jessica Keller, and the beginning of her first full term as a supervisor for Susan McGinty. Both women were sworn in last week at the Monroe County Courthouse.
McGinty joined the supervisors a year and half ago after Blaine Silfies, who was a supervisor at the time, resigned because he had plans to move out of the township.
Supervisors Gary Hoffman and Scott Clark interviewed candidates for the position and selected McGinty to finish out Silfies’ term. In order to stay on as a supervisor, McGinty had to run in the most recent election, where she won a seat.
“I’ve learned a lot in the last year and half,” McGinty said.
McGinty said she is looking forward to her first full term and putting into practice all the knowledge she has gained from her predecessors. She said she also is looking forward to renovations beginning on the Stone Arch Bridge, a well-known fixture, and the renovations to come on the park next to the Eldred Township Community Center.
“There’s a lot to look forward to,” McGinty said. “They’re going to be big projects, and I think in the long term they’re going to bring a lot of good to the residents.”
Supervisor Chairman Scott Clark welcomed newcomer Keller to the board.
“I would like to welcome Jessica Keller as our new supervisor, so welcome aboard. We appreciate you joining us and putting yourself out there for people to get to know you and bring feedback from the residents,” Clark said. “We look forward to the next few years with you.”
After the meeting, Keller said she is excited to get to work as a supervisor.
“I’m hoping to serve where I can and volunteer where I can, and just kind of be a valuable resource if possible, where possible,” she said.
Keller said she has much to learn, but is impressed with the efficient, streamlined process of the supervisors.
