Coaldale borough began the new year with a new mayor, three new council members and a new tax collector.
Borough council held its reorganization meeting Monday with Mayor Daniel Weiksner issuing oaths of office beforehand to new council members Rosie Hoban, Tristan Blasko and Matthew Jungbaer, and new tax collector Kim Gavornik.
Gavornik is also a borough councilwoman but announced later in the meeting that she intends to resign from that post.
Weiksner began the meeting, calling for nominations for president. Councilman Michael Radocha nominated Hoban and when Weiskner asked council if there were any other nominations, Hoban nominated Gavornik.
A roll call vote was taken on the first nomination made, and council unanimously approved Hoban as president.
Radocha was nominated as vice president by Jungbaer. Radocha then nominated Gavornik.
A vote taken on Radocha’s nomination passed 3-2, with Radocha and Gavornik opposed.
As Weiksner turned the meeting over to Hoban, Gavornik noted that she will resign at the February meeting to resume her new role as tax collector.
She explained that she is staying on council for another month to help with the new transition.
Cathy Papesh will return as borough treasurer, Steve Polischak will remain chief of the Coaldale Fire Department and Scott Gerber was reappointed as emergency management coordinator.
Council voted to keep its regular monthly meetings at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month.
Council will advertise for folks to fill the roles of secretary, solicitor, two council seats and sewer authority member.
