New mayor McDermott takes office in Bowmanstown

At the monthly Bowmanstown borough meeting on Monday, the town’s new mayor was in attendance for his first official meeting holding office.

Replacing former mayor Zachary Snyder, Mayor Sean McDermott said he is ready to serve the Bowmanstown community.

Secretary/Treasurer Tracy Csrenko swore in McDermott, as well as returning council members Wendy Borger, Candace Rodrigues, and Darren Thomas. Newly appointed council member Ben Price was also sworn in before the meeting.

Other appointed Bowmanstown government officials include:

• President Pam Leiby

• Vice-President Wendy Borger

• Pro Tem President Darren Thomas

• Vacancy Board Chairperson Tonia Smale

• Planning Commission Member Rodney Reeser and Ronald Gantz

• Zoning Hearing Board Member Ben Powell

• CC Appeal Board Darren Thomas

• Delegate Carbon County Tax Collection Committee Member Kara Scott

• Alternate Delegate Carbon County Tax Collection Committee Member Norman Engle Jr.

The council also voted for Broughal & DeVito, LPP as solicitor, Alfred Benesch & Co. as Engineer, 1st Northern Bank & Trust as designated depository, and The Times News as advertising agency for public notices.

Council said the fire law, sewer/water, budget/finance, streets, property, and personnel chairpeople and members would be determined at a later date.

In other borough news, Devin White, a valued member of the operational support functions in the town has resigned.

He’s leaving to be a firefighter in Hazleton. His last day is Jan. 16.

The council announced that interested individuals can fill out an application at the borough hall during working hours.

The council would like to hire one full-time and one part-time employee. Applicants should be waste water treatment operator certified.
