Local Roundup: Results from Jan. 5

The Lehighton boys and girls basketball teams both defeated Moravian Academy in Colonial League action on Monday.

The victory by the Indian girls allowed them to clinch a district playoff berth.

Other winners Monday included the Northwestern and Marian boys, and Northern Lehigh’s boys wrestling team.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lehighton-Moravian Academy

Cole Dietz poured in a game-high 30 points to help visiting Lehighton roll to an 83-34 Colonial League victory over Moravian Academy.

Dietz netted 16 of his points in the first half, while Talin Fairchild tallied all 14 of his points during the first two quarters as the Indians raced to a 34-point halftime lead.

Blake Roberts added 20 points to the winning cause, while the Lions received a team-high 18 points from Trevor King.

Northwestern-Wilson

Cannon Fitch turned in a solid performance from the free-throw line as Northwestern gained a key 62-58 Colonial League victory over host Wilson.

Fitch finished 12-of-14 at the charity stripe, including an 8-of-10 effort during the fourth quarter to help the Tigers secure the win.

Fitch ended with a team-high 17 points, while Brady Zimmerman added 15 and Brady Krimmel contributed 13.

The Warriors’ Lafayette Acree netted a game-high 22 points.

Marian grabbed a double-digit lead at halftime and hung on for a 48-44 Schuylkill League victory over host Williams Valley.

Greg Tirpak drained five three-pointers in the opening quarter and the Colts led by 11 at the intermission.

Besides Tirpak’s 15 points, Marian also received 12 from Mitchell Knock and 11 from Justin De La Cruz.

The Vikings were paced by Bryce Zilinski’s 12 points.

Jim Thorpe-Bangor

A big second half snapped a halftime tie and lifted Bangor to a 51-38 Colonial League victory over visiting Jim Thorpe.

Jason Marcantonis scored 12 of his team-high 23 points over the final two frames for the Slaters to help outscore the Olympians 35-14 after intermission.

Lincoln Rehrig added nine of his 12 points in the second half, while Landon Childs went 8-of-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to help secure the win.

Thorpe received a game-high 26 points from Pierce Gothard, who had 15 of his team’s 20 points in the opening half.

Notre Dame used a strong second quarter to take control and went on to post an 84-58 Colonial League victory over visiting Palmerton.

Drew Boyd scored seven of his 14 points in the second frame as the Crusaders outscored the Bombers 24-9 to grab an 18-point halftime advantage.

Five Notre Dame players reached double-digit scoring, with Justin Manning leading the way with 16 points.

Palmerton’s Gaige McGowan paced his team with 16 points, while Tate Buck added 11.

Braeden Doyle scored a game-high 25 points for the Bulldogs, who remained undefeated in league play. Gavin Klock tossed in 22 as the winners jumped out to an 18-point halftime lead.

The Wreckers were paced by Ian McKeegan and Niko Saldukas, who both tallied 19 points. Matt Adler chipped in with 11.

Lehighton became the first team from the Times News area to clinch a district playoff berth after rolling to a 57-23 Colonial League victory over Moravian Academy.

Eleven different players scored for the Indians, who led 16-0 after the first quarter.

Leah Uyvari tallied a team-high 11 points for the winners, while Ryleigh Trotman and Ava Serfass each contributed seven.

For the Lions, Ellie Criscoulo matched Uyvari for game-high honors with 11 points.

Bangor pushed its winning streak to three games, as the Slaters knocked off Jim Thorpe 35-24 in Colonial League action.

Kaylynn Figurski sparked a fourth-quarter run for the Slaters, who had lost eight straight games to start the season, as she netted 10 of her team-high 12 points in the final period.

The Olympians’ Olivia Snisky led all scorers with 15 points, while Ciara Lees chipped in with five.

The Warriors also received 11 points from Tessa Bonham.

Natalie Conner netted a team-high 24 points for the Tigers, while teammate Hannah Gober added 11.

Nolehi’s Jaxon Bower added a tech fall at 172.

The hosts swam away with a 130-30 victory in the boys’ meet, while the Cougar girls edged their visitors 89-85.

Savannah Wilson won two individual events for the Blue Raiders, taking the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke.

Tamaqua’s Gia Clemson (diving) and Janna Brown (100 free) each added individual firsts.
