Carbon County Salary Board members gave District Attorney Richard Webb a late Christmas present yesterday.

The board approved the creation of a 20,000 a year fulltime assistant district attorney.

Webb’s victory appears to actually be more of a compromise. His original request for a fulltime assistant at $25,000 in addition to keeping three part-time assistants did not sit well with the commissioners art an early December public hearing. Webb said even though the third assistant position has been dropped, he does not see the new position as a compromise. Instead of having three part-time assistants, he saids the new position represents an increase of half-a-person to his staff.
