No one injured in Lehighton laundromat fire

A laundromat in Lehighton suffered mild damage after a fire broke out Sunday night.

Lehighton Fire Department Chief Patrick Mriss said firefighters responded just after 8 p.m. to the Lehighton Coin Laundry & Dry at 42 Blakeslee Boulevard Drive East.

“There was heavy smoke coming from the building,” Mriss said. “We encountered fire in the walls and the attic crawl space of the building.”

Mriss said no one was inside the laundromat, but believes there were at the time of the 911 call. There were no injuries.

He described the damage to the laundromat as being moderate, and noted no utilities have been disconnected.

Mriss added the fire, which was in the area of the Lehighton Coin Laundry section of the building, remains under investigation.

He said the fire was under control within an hour, and noted crews were on scene for about two hours.

Also assisting at the scene were the Franklin Township Fire Department, Mahoning Valley Fire Department, and Panther Valley RIT Team, Mriss said.

“Luckily someone noticed it fairly early,” he said. “Timing was a huge factor in this in being able to limit the fire.”
