Nesquehoning fire chief reminds all to maintain furnaces

Winter is upon us and a Nesquehoning fire chief wants people to remember that keeping their furnaces maintained will cut down on the possibility of fires.

Last week, John McArdle, Nesquehoning Hose Company fire chief, stressed in his borough emergency management report the importance of a properly cleaned and maintained heating system.

“We’ve unfortunately already experienced several incidents of carbon monoxide exposure, as well as oil burner puff backs,” McArdle said. “This is all due primarily to the lack of maintenance. Ensuring heating systems are in good working order is crucial for the safety and comfort of your home.”

In addition, as the Christmas season is here, people also set up live Christmas trees inside their homes.

McArdle also reminded residents to keep live trees watered and to only use UL rated lights and extension cords.

“This will not only enhance the festive atmosphere,” he said. “It will also prevent any potential hazards.”
