Weatherly approves lease for Schwab school, lot

Weathlery Borough Council approved an agreement for the lease of the borough-owned Schwab School and parking lot.

Nanovic said that it was a renewal that included both entities being leased by Alliance for Building Communities, the nonprofit working on the project to convert the old school into housing.

“I think I made the Schwab School 40 years and at the end of the lease, the Schwab School would become owned by ABC, or whatever entity,” he said. “The parking area would still be the borough’s.”

This is a one-year lease option that council would be renewing, Pudliner said, but it now includes both the parking lot and the school.

Council members said they’re not giving the nonprofit the school now.

“If this goes through, eventually they’ll receive it,” Nanovic said, “But it won’t be until the end of 40 years.”
