Polk Township budget with no tax hike adopted
There will be no tax increase in Polk Township under the 2026 budget that was adopted at the supervisors meeting Monday.
Millage will remain 0.62, with the fire tax remaining 0.37, which goes directly to the fire department. Library millage will remain 0.2636 (billed with the Pleasant Valley School District tax); Monroe County tax, 5.4773; and PV tax, 25.6157. Everything totals 32.3466 mills, with no increases.
The 2026 budget includes a $1,000 donation for the 250th anniversary celebration if Monroe County approaches the township for money.
When a resident asked about projected income versus spending, Chairman Brian Ahner noted, “I’d like to raise taxes if the tax went directly to blacktop our roads. We’re chasing our tails with these Mickey Mouse funds,”
He also alluded to small grants.
The fee schedule for 2026 will remain unchanged except the fee for lot joinder recording, which will increase to $475.
Other business
• The supervisors discussed the need for speed limit signs in the township for roads that don’t have any.
Further information will be gathered about the feasibility of doing this as road studies need to be conducted.
• Concern for safety at the park when it snows led the supervisors to decide that the park will be roped off when it snows.
• A lot joinder was approved for Blue Sail Investments LLC as the conditions of getting tax certification, and the dimensions of setbacks were completed.
The former Cramer’s property will be used for a storage facility for boats and RVs as well as general storage units.
• Polk Township will hold a reorganization meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 5.
Hearing held
Following a conditional use hearing, approval was granted for light manufacturing at an existing building at 660 Interchange Road, a permitted use.
The building will be used to store pre-hung doors, and hinges and locks will be installed on-site. Eventually, additional buildings will be constructed for storage. Three things will be needed as the project advances: a Highway Occupancy Permit, septic inspection and wetland delineation.
