Turnpike crashes

State police at the Pocono barracks reported the following crashes that occurred on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike:

• Zachary R. Frankenfield, 30, of Telford, was cited for careless driving after a one-vehicle crash at 6:14 p.m. on Dec. 12 at mile marker 92.4 in Kidder Township.

Police said he refused a medical services transport from the scene.

They said he was operating a 2017 Subaru Forester northbound when he attempted to remove his winter coat. He lost control of it as it struck the center concrete median, after which he overcorrected the vehicle but it struck an embankment and tipped and rolled over.

The vehicle had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 3 p.m. on Dec. 12 at the Hickory Run Service Plaza in Penn Forest Township.

Police said the crash occurred when Frank E. Bertollo, 40, of Wilmington, Delaware, was driving a 2004 International Harvester that struck a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado that was legally parked at a gasoline fuel pump island. The Silverado had been operated by Patrick P. McMullen, 24, of Scranton.

Police said both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.

Bertollo was cited for careless driving, according to police.

• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 3:35 p.m. on Dec. 17 just off mile marker 75.7 in Franklin Township.

Police said the crash occurred when a 2016 Ford Escape hit the back of a 2003 Chevrolet CK1500 that was stopped and waiting to merge onto Route 209.

Police did not identify the drivers of the vehicles but said the driver of the Escape was cited for “failure to control her speed to avoid a collision.”

Police said the Escape had damage to its passenger side front bumper, fender, headlight assembly and wheel well, while the Chevrolet had damage to the driver’s side rear bumper, tailgate, fender and tail light.

• Police said a 2013 Acura was sideswiped by a vehicle while it was traveling north at mile marker 70.3 in Washington Township at 3:34 p.m. on Dec. 16.

They did not identify the drivers of the vehicles but said a 2019 International Harvester drifted into the left lane and struck the Acura.

• Police were called to a hit-and-run crash at 4:52 a.m. on Dec. 15 at the Hickory Run service plaza off mile marker 86 in Penn Forest Township.

They said a vehicle that was leaving a parking space struck the driver’s side of an International Harvester tractor with its center trailer area and left the scene.

The driver of the struck vehicle was not identified by police.
