Nesquehoning’s real estate taxes will remain the same in 2026.
During borough council’s meeting on Wednesday, the board voted to approve the approximate $2.5 million final budget which keeps the millage rate the same as last year’s rate.
That means the millage rate stands at 20.8 mills, with it broken down as 17.5 for general fund; 0.35 for parks and recreation; 1.85 for fire protection; and 1.1 for street lighting.
For taxpayers, the action means that the owners of a $100,000 home assessed at $50,000 should pay the same in real estate taxes that they did in 2025.
Councilwoman Lois Kuba, chair of the budget and finance committee, said that while last year everyone worked together to keep costs down, she reminds the borough that they need to continue doing that next year.
“Everybody please watch any undue spending,” she said. “We have to keep getting what we need and not what we want. ... If we approach 2026 like (we did 2025), we’ll be in good shape.”
Council initially passed the preliminary budget last month calling for taxes to remain the same.
In other matters, council approved the cost of living allowance for pension recipients with interest.
