Carbon official reappointed to state board

A longtime Carbon County employee was recently recognized for her reappointment to a state board of directors.

Eloise Ahner, the county administrator, was reappointed last month to the Prison Inmate Medical Cost Containment board of directors.

She is one five directors appointed by the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania. Other members include two county commissioners, one warden and one county solicitor; however none of those members are from the Times News coverage area.

Commissioners’ Chairman Mike Sofranko recognized Ahner, noting that she does not like the spotlight; however, being one of only five selected to this state board is a big deal that should be announced.

“Carbon County is very fortunate enough to have that appointment,” he said. “That not only speaks volumes for the people in Carbon County, but it speaks volumes for Eloise.

“She does an outstanding job and the fact that it’s recognized in this state, let me say this ... this shows to all of you, the taxpayers, that you are definitely getting represented by one of the finest people in the state.”

Ahner has been a Carbon County employee since 1980 and served as county administrator since Feb. 2, 2012.

In 2021, she was honored by CCAP as the Outstanding Chief Clerk/Administrator Award of the year for making a positive difference in the lives of county residents with her quiet professionalism, remarkable work ethic, excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and the continuity she brings with her vast knowledge of issues affecting county residents.
